Donna's focus is healthspan: helping people stay strong, mobile and capable as they age. After three decades of getting athletes back to performance, she now applies the same principles to a different goal, working with clients who want to protect their strength, bone density, balance and independence through their fifties, sixties and beyond. Her Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist status with the Australian Physiotherapy Association is a recognised standard of advanced practice, requiring a Master's degree and demonstrated clinical expertise in the field.
Bone density is a particular focus, and one that is poorly served. Women diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis are often told to walk more and take calcium, neither of which is sufficient to build bone. Drawing on the research that established what genuinely improves bone mineral density in women with osteoporosis, Donna prescribes high-intensity resistance and impact loading alongside dynamic balance work, carefully supervised and progressed. For women in peri-menopause and beyond, the same approach protects bone strength and reduces fall risk before a diagnosis is ever made.
Her clinical work also centres on post-surgical rehabilitation, with a growing number of clients recovering from hip and knee replacements alongside the ACL reconstructions that follow every ski season. She guides clients through each stage of recovery of the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle, rebuilding genuine capacity rather than simply clearing the milestones.
Donna's work in postural dysfunction is grounded in her training in the McKenzie Method, a system for classifying spinal pain by how it responds to movement and loading rather than by imaging alone. It means she can identify which positions and movements are driving a client's symptoms, and give them a specific strategy to manage it themselves. Her Clinical Pilates background adds the strength and control work that holds those changes in place.
Donna came to physiotherapy from competitive dance, and still skis, dives and trains in the gym. The thinking she applies to clients is the thinking she applies to herself: capacity is built over decades, not recovered in a season.
